जब कभी शाम के साये मंडराते हैं
मैं दिवाकिरण की आहट को रोक लेती हूँ
और सायास एक बार
उस तुलसी को पूजती हूँ
जिसे रोपा था मेरी माँ ने
नैनीताल जाने से पहले
जब हम इसी आँगन में लौटे थे
तब मैं उस माँ की याद में रो भी न सकी थी
वह माँ जिसके सुमधुर गान फिर कभी सुन न सकी थी
वह माँ जो उसी आँगन में बैठ कर मुझे अल्पना उकेरना सिखा न सकी थी
वह माँ जिसके बनाये व्यंजनों में मेरा भाग केवल नमकीन था
वह माँ जिसके वस्त्रों में सहेजा गया ममत्व
मेरी विरासत न बन
एक परंपरा बन गया था
वह माँ जिसके पुनर्वास के लिए
हमने सहेजे थे कंदील और
हम बैठे थे टिमटिमाते दीपों की छाया में
और बैठे ही रहे थे
